We stress Social Responsibility at Casuarinas International College, which takes on special meaning as our community works to impact positively the population closest to our school. In forming our school identity, included in our mission, vision and values, we strive to generate an ethical community and a culture of solidarity.
Our students, especially those in the Diploma and Career programs, have the opportunity to think globally and act locally as they practice the IB attributes through the implementation of the projects completed through the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) component of the program.
Our participation in socially responsible school-wide activities makes up an important part of our identity, especially with the communities of Pamplona Alta (in San Juan de Miraflores, close to our main campus in Lima) and Huancavelica.
Founding CONIN (The Child Nutrition Cooperative) in Pamplona Alta has allowed us to continuously develop various projects, often student designed and directed, as we work with 300 beneficiary families throughout the school year. While volunteering, our students interact with the community and apply the experiential learning methodology to plan, execute, evaluate, reflect upon and create evidence about their projects. Our students and staff have raised funds to build numerous houses for homeless families each year, taught gardening, nutrition and cooking skills, helped with educational initiatives for the children and donated much needed shoes, clothing, school supplies, toys and other materials as needed.
In addition, each grade level voluntarily contributes throughout the year to coordinate Social Action Days (DAS), raising funds for scholarships for almost 200 students at the San Juan María Vianney Seminary in Huancavelica.
