Casuarinas International School has four computer laboratories and an Entrepreneurship Classroom, all part of a new innovative educational initiative method.
The Entrepreneurship Classroom is a modern space, contrasting the view of nature with latest generation of equipment. Activities are developed using touchscreen computers, an interactive whiteboard, an 75 inch LCD TV, and two webcams that enable the registration of the groups’ collaborative work as well as videoconferences. While carrying out investigative work, students are divided in groups of 5 participants maximum, with every group developing a different activity based on a specific task.
The Robatics laboratory helps students develop their fine and gross motor skills and apply problem solving strategies to activities or during teamwork sessions.
Through the Robotics laboratory, students discover their creative capacity and develop problem solving abilities. In addition, they develop mathematical-logical intelligence, applying numerical calculations and following logical programming patterns. Robotics also improves the students’ capacity to pay attention as well as their memory, concentration and interpersonal intelligence through socialization during the collaborative group work sessions.
TABLETS – IPADS LABORATORY
The portable Tablet/iPads laboratory enhances the teaching-learning processes. Our students’ motivation towards learning activities elevates, as the technological features of these tools enable the distribution of educational contents in various formats, such as reading e-books, watching videos, solving interactive questionnaires, etc.
Tablets are included in units with specific contents, taking into account the educational level and curriculum of each courses. These devices are highly intuitive and easy to use, considering that nowadays students are DIGITAL NATIVES; therefore, they do not need previous training. These tools are naturally integrated to the capacities that children have developed from using other similar devices.
USE OF TICIN THE CLASSROOM - "CASUARINAS MODEL"
We are working on the implementation process of a “Casuarinas Model” related to the use of the ICT in classroom.
Our proposal is based on the TPACK Model to achieve the inclusion of the ICT in the classroom, aiming to enhance teaching-learning processes. This model claims that the types of knowledge that a teacher needs to integrate ICT into classes include: content, pedagogy and technology.
Regarding “Techno-Pedagogical Knowledge,” we encourage the use of diverse resources in order to apply “The Flipped Classroom” model, looking for meaningful learning that students can apply in the future. This model (sometimes also refered to as “Inverted Classroom”) provides resources to students so that they can have access to specific information before, during and after lessons.
InIt is for this reason that we count on a subscription to “BrainPOP,” an online resource with educational content, to support students’ curriculum needs and facilitate the investigation and understanding of diverse subjects.
